Petz,

You were carrying an AMD laptop!! Of course.

They had great shots of San Diego...downtown, the bay, the sky bridge and the island across from the city with the great old hotel...I can't remember the name.

In any case, SD looking good!

ted

ted, "walking down the street" I did walk into Fry's today and was depressed by the HP GHz PIII right next to the HP GHz Athlon. As reported elsewhere, the Athlon was only $100 cheaper. There was also a GHz Compaq Athlon $300 less than the HP Gigamine. Its only defect appeared to be a 16M TNT2 card rather than the 32M on the HP machines.

They also had a 933 HP PIII in the next aisle which was cheaper than the 900 MHz Athlon.

But I did some telephone investigation today at chipsandmemory.com The spokesman there said he could get GHz Athlons in one day (they operate without much inventory) but that "GHz Intel chips are on indefinite hold." Those were his words. He had no clue when he might get another one, even though his web site lists them at $749. I had received the same story calling thechipmerchant.com yesterday and reported it on the "Mod" thread. (That guy said it would be 2 to 4 weeks before he got another GHz Intel chip and that he had a customer already waiting for two weeks.

Now I wish I had asked a salesman at Fry's if they had any of those HP Gigawonders actually in stock.
