No that was a well thought out post. I like your style. I agree with you completely. I was a buy and holder over the last 5 years like everyone else. I played MSFT, CSCO, .coms , B2B and then Biotech early this year. The climate has changed. It's time to trade more actively or make nothing. I think we have entered a period in the market where the return in big cap techs will be very little over the next 5 years. The one thing about them though is they make great shorts as they fail key resistence levels. The bulk of my trading now is shorting IPO lockups as they slide into the ground and longing and shorting big cap techs as they break down or break out. I don't try to get to much but if you cut your losers tight and let your winners run you can net over 10% a month. The longs of this board don't want to here about this strategy. I think the great returns they have made over the last 5 years have gone to their heads. I think it's time that people look at changing their trading styles or they will suffer over the coming years.

I believe there is a csco moderated thread started by Gary. For those of you that don't want to talk about things like 800 million stock options, effects of pooling, a slowing telecom sector or realistic expectations for the market, I'm sure Gary will welcome you to his thread.

I bet you that if you take a balanced cross-section of day traders over any 5 year period, a statistically insignificant percentage of those are earning above the S&P500 rate of returns for the same time period. That is the fundamental flaw in daytrading. You can win some of the time, but your expected value is not as high as if you were a LTBH investor.
