NTAP--Network Appliance and BMC Collaborate to Provide Customers with Enhanced Centralized Management Solutions PATROL® for Network Appliance(TM) Filers Increases Data Availability and Performance
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2000-- Network Appliance, Inc, (Nasdaq:NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content management solutions, and BMC Software(Nasdaq:BMCS - news), the leading provider of e-business systems management, today announced that the two companies have collaborated to provide customers with BMC Software's PATROL for Network Appliance filer products.
Built upon the newly launched Network Appliance Data ONTAP(TM) 6.0 operating system, the new management software enhances the capability to centralize the monitoring and administration of NetApp® filers.
This integrated solution will deliver essential information to BMC's PATROL software. Its user-friendly interface will provide a centralized, graphical view of enterprise-level network-attached storage (NAS) configurations, essentially identifying when application problems are caused by storage events. Coupled with Data ONTAP 6.0, this preventative software can reduce unnecessary downtime by alerting a system administrator of any potential system difficulties by means of monitoring the performance, availability, and reliability of the storage configuration. Additionally, BMC will integrate the solution into its existing management infrastructures.
The newly launched Network Appliance Data ONTAP 6.0 software, the company's most advanced software to date for scalable storage capacity and the operating system for the recently launched NetApp F800 series filers, enhances data protection and maximizes data availability for enterprises, ISPs, ASPs, and SSPs.
``Network Appliance Data ONTAP 6.0 represents a dramatic increase in the scalability, reliability, and availability of data management solutions on the NetApp filer platform,'' said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. ``With BMC's PATROL Software, customers can now leverage the increased functionality of Data ONTAP 6.0 from a centralized console where administrators manage other storage systems, databases, ERP applications, operating systems, or e-business applications.''
``This is an exciting time for BMC Software as we are one step closer to delivering Application-Centric Storage Management,'' said Chris Gahagan, vice president and general manager of recovery and storage management for BMC Software. ``Network Appliance has shown a deep commitment to the technologies necessary for success, as well as a distinct expertise within our industry.''
