<<I am not unhappy to see Apple generate revenue from this Beta!>>

My feelings on this are kinda mixed.

It's good to see them take advantage of a revenue generating opportunity.

But it's also not good to see them alienate other folks who may not want to spend for the beta.

Perhaps they will start a trend that other software vendors may follow. Gosh if Microsoft reduced their betas to $30 each, they would make a mint!

On another note, it looks like Apple is taking every opportunity no matter how small. Reminds me of a cartoon from one of my elementary school reeading books...

Two kids observe and old man picking up a penny.

One says to the other, "Can you believe that!? He's so rich and he stoops to pick up a penny!"

Other kid, "Maybe that's how he got so rich!"

I'm a member of an Interactive group here in Manhattan and we've been using the Apple Market Center auditorium space for various events and seminars (donated to us by Apple).

Now they require all of our events to be preceded by a 15 minute marketing spiel by an Apple rep on the benefits of Apple products!

Being a stockholder I do not mind this. However, our committee feels that patrons of these events come from all over the country and pay for the event NOT to hear an Apple sales pitch.

So we are looking for another site. we're hoping Sony can accomodate us.

I think there are less intrusive ways for apple to pitch without actually taking up 15 minutes at the beginning of the event.

Alas, I have not participated in any of these events recently, so I don't know if they are already doing things like;
- setting up seperate kiosks highlighting apple product lines in the reception area,
- or putting up HUGE posters in the auditorium
- leaving pamphlets and premiums laying around next to the snacks at break time
- leaving a surreptitious "sign-in" sheet at the door so people can leave name/title/email address for the sales reps to snatch up
- mounting an Apple Cinema Screen on the ceiling above each restroom stall that constantly broadcasts Apple TV for people who forget to bring in a magazine to read
