< But it's beginning to look to me that PALM has gotten ahead of itself now, and it's going to take a real blow out Q and upbeat CC on 9/25 to
sustain this price. >

David, I don't agree with your above statement. The current price action of Palm is a conscientious effort of the MMs to re-price Palm to its fair value. The fair value of Palm is at $60 by my own evaluation. One days pre-ipo (talking about history again!), coms/Palm took a valiant effort to adjust Palm to $60 and giving coms/palm an actual price of over $100 and eventually rested at $115 (and crashed).

This kind of slow and steady rise with relatively low vol. is price re-adjustment - not overbought and of course it's actually a Reverse Shakeout© :-)

Thanks for the copyright mark !

Mang

So what's behind this amazing strength in PALM?

I'm long PALM and intend to stay that way for quite some time. That said, something has been bugging me the past week and it finally clicked when I read your question...

HWP.

Back in the pre-Agilent days I'd follow HP. On several occassions, just before that quarter's earnings speculation would start in earnest, Goldman Sachs would issue a Blue Sky "analysis" and the stock would run into the earnings report.

And then crash on less-than-stellar earnings report.

Long term it won't make much difference, but for the sake of our short-term sanity I hope this isn't happening here, now. I have a deep and abiding respect for Goldman Sach's ability to make money for themselves and for the clients. Since I'm not a big enough fish to be one of their clients, I also have a deep and abiding respect for their ability to totally crush me in the process. :-)

I'm not a conspiracy buff, I'm just throwing it out there as something to think about...

I just checked the max-pain calculation for PALM Septs. It is $35. I don't think we will get there <vbg>.
