I believe I said the pension issue was the main reason for my registering as a Democrat after voting Republican for 26 years. If I said it was the only reason, I should have said it was the main reason.

No, Sarge, I also woke up one morning and took a drive through the city I call home. I saw lots of problems: homelessness, a decaying inner urban core, schools in need of much help, etc. I then asked the question: Which political party at least tries to address these problems, and which party pretends these problems don't exist?

The bottom line is the Dems don't have any more solutions to the Repubs for what ails America, but at least the Dems seek out solutions rather than seek to send tax money back to the well-to-do.

I am indeed for the working man and working woman. If I were in it for myself, I'd vote Republican, because I would personally profit from a GOP administration in the form of tax breaks, a lower capital gains tax, etc.

But I see higher priorities in America today than getting back an extra grand a year from Uncle Sam. I'd rather that we use that money to make America grow. In that sense, I'm truly "long" on America and "short" on personal greed. And I'm proud of it.
