Albert and Petz, the motherboard situation for socket A will likely be interesting over the next couple of months. As someone pointed out earlier, there are alot of good boards out there now, but most fit into the Thunderbird system range as opposed to the Duron price range.

The chipset situation is also an interesting unknown. VIA has probably done well for AMD but it's easy to see that when comparing releases of like capability chipsets, those that support Intel products are arriving a month or so before those that support the K7 platform. I think VIA is hedging here in anticipation that Intel might slip and present more opportunities. Can't blame them for that because last year's numerous slips have padded VIA's pockets.

I would hope that better "internal" chipset and motherboard capability is high on the list when the $2B shelf offering shopping begins. The December quarter is critical, but unfortunately we find ourselves "wishing and hoping" again instead of influencing how things will evolve.

I'm hoping that ALI is a lot further along with their sign-ons than my gut feeling tells me they are.
