I've heard of TIP's as a suggestion and probably a good one at that. Cash or cash instruments may well be king. I'm not big on gold stocks but could be persuaded if an advance of some magnitude were to take place. My position trade through the first part of October is VPI. Several posts on the VPI Yahoo board should cover my explanation of why I am bullish at least short term.

As far as oil related futures are concerned I opened an account at Alaron trading with Phil Flynn an analyst that is often cited on CNBC. It was opened with 10k and has fluctuated wildly and is at present 21k after being close to 30k last Friday. The money was invested purely as a learning tool and therefore not much was expected in a financial sense. Phil calls too often actually but I have to admit I have learned a great deal. I would recommend only if you have the time and the $$$ to lose. But, my what a learning experience.

Thanks for your well thought out response.
