This story posted on #8463 eet.com was interesting to me. I live in Microsoft country and have talked to some Microsoft software code writers in the embedded area. Microsoft is puting a lot of money and people into the embedded area and bringing in people from other countries etc. It gives some concern to a Wind investor (me) since MSFT was late into other areas as we all know and ended up owning the area. In fact these MSFT people were bragging how they were going to overcome Wind etc in time as they they have did others. Oh well another anecdote in from the locker room.

Allen, Thank you for your delightful narrative regarding the historical roots of the lily pond metaphor and yalp acronym.

Going forward I expect to see yalp and WIND used in the same sentence more frequently. (grin)

Best, Huey

I like the use of “gorilla” to
describe not just a big, powerful company, but one that dominates a market in special
ways.

hi Allen,

may i recommend "the gorilla game" by g. moore.
or rather "highly" recommend.

moore explains in detail exactly how to play the gorilla investing game...he calls your lily pond a tornado.

all gorillas are born in tornadoes...without a tornado there is no gorilla...great gorillas create more tornadoes (lily ponds) as time goes on.

wind is not in a tornado yet...BUT...they are capturing more and more market share in a market that is entering or is about to enter a tornado imo.

wind sits in the middle of your pond right now...it remains to be seen if wind will become a gorilla. however, as moore explains, rising tides raise all boats, and i expect wind to be a great investment.

in moore's terms....wind has crossed the chasm, entered the bowling alley, and is knocking down pins, and lots of them. all gorillas and other successful companies go through this process.

the book also explains when to sell gorillas and companies that do not achieve that status.

good luck and thanks for your fine explanations,
uw

ps. no relationship to moore :o)
