Engineer - Thank you for that response to the AWE marketing song. What arrogance! Interesting that this news comes out only a couple of days after the news report that BellSouth is thinking of doing a 1XRTT overlay to their TDMA systems in Latin America.

Re: the point you made about " no more power in the DSP circuits. " I remember the Lucent VP in charge of the EDGE project saying (at the Alex Cena sponsored analyst meeting this past May) that having a completed EDGE product depended on advancements in DSPs. They could not give a time frame for the expected completion date of these advancements. They just assured the analysts that they expected (hoped) the necessary DSP power to be there when they were ready for it (sounded like 2002 at the earliest).

No comparison to HDR on same DSP power!

Engineer - there will be a PRODUCTION capable HDR chip which runs at less than 100mW at full 2.4 MBPS speeds. No more power in the radio, no more power in the power amp, no more power in the DSP circuits. With a production capable phone at less than 90 gms and still keeps relatively the same battery life.

No. Sorry. I'll say it again - CDMA is more efficient, and HDR will undoubtedly be much more efficient than EDGE, ... BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE IN ANY MEANINGFUL SENSE.

Apologies for being confrontational, but over-hype irks me. The power needed to transmit a chip bit and the power needed to transmit a data bit are very very different things - especially when you are using a less power efficient modulation scheme.
