Speaking with reporters yesterday morning, Suk Ho-ick, director-general of the telecommunications business bureau, said, "The ministry will ask the three service operators applying for the licenses and the three equipment makers to come up with a compromise plan that allows for the adoption of multiple technology standards." However, none of the service operators have formally advised the ministry of their position on the standards, he added. The three service operators in the running for the three available IMT-2000 licenses are the consortiums led by Korea Telecom, LG Electronics and SK Telecom. The three equipment makers are Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Hyundai Electronics Industries. "Should the heads of the concerned companies request postponement of the application deadline, we will review putting it off by a month," said Suk.
