Under this agreement, Nortel Networks and InfoSpace will work together to provide a solution allowing carriers worldwide to roll out advanced data and transaction services quickly over both existing and next generation (2.5G and 3G) wireless Internet networks. InfoSpace will provide the platform for a complete network and services infrastructure offering available through Nortel Networks' established sales channel.
In addition, Nortel Networks and InfoSpace have agreed to collaborate on the development of new wireless Internet services optimized for third generation networks designed to support service providers as they look to capitalize on new revenue opportunities provided by next generation wireless services.
The combined infrastructure and services solution will enable carriers to quickly and efficiently roll out branded services optimized for both today's networks as well as next generation (2.5G & 3G) wireless networks. InfoSpace's wireless services platform is the platform of choice for leading carriers worldwide including Vodafone, Verizon, SBC and AT&T Wireless.
"Carriers preparing for next generation networks and applications can look to Nortel Networks and InfoSpace to provide a comprehensive Wireless Internet platform -- one that is fast and flexible, enables new ways to conduct commerce, access information and communicate, and offers a better overall user experience," said Anil Khatod, president, Global Internet Solutions, Nortel Networks.
"As carriers vie for licenses to build out third generation networks, it is extremely important for them to deliver next generation broadband services that enable not only faster and richer information, but that turn every mobile device into a true transaction device," said Arun Sarin, CEO of InfoSpace. "InfoSpace services can be quickly rolled out under a carrier's own brand and include commerce, communication and entertainment services optimized for both today's wireless networks and, with our recently announced acquisition of Go2Net, for next generation broadband networks as well."
