Thu 14 Sept 2000 News Release
Mr. William Coulter reports
Major General Resources has completed the acquisition of a 50-per-cent interest in the Adlatok 1 property consisting of 100 claims covering 25 square kilometres. The new claim block is contiguous to the company’s Sarah Lake property, where a diamond drilling program is now in progress. The target on the Sarah Lake property is a large gravity anomaly which may be sourced by a Voisey’s Bay-type nickel-cobalt deposit. A three-hole 1,800-metre drill program is under way on the property, which is located 90 kilometres south of Inco’s Voisey’s Bay. Major General is the operator and a 40-per-cent shareholder, with the remaining 60 per cent of the Sarah Lake interest held by Donner Minerals Ltd. Major General has the right by completing the current program to increase its percentage to a majority interest.
The Adlatok 1 property adjoins the northeastern portion of Sarah Lake where the drill program will test a large gravity anomaly. If a mineralized zone is encountered, it can be expected to extend a significant distance to the east and north, which includes the Adlatok 1 property. In addition to the Adlatok 1 claims, Major General recently acquired by staking a 100-per-cent interest in the Sally property, west of Sarah Lake. Contingent upon the success of these surveys, an additional drill program will be launched.
Major General is also active in other projects, including diamond exploration programs on Victoria Island in northern Canada. This project, on which $3-million has been spent over the past 12 months, is being financed by Dia Met Minerals, Hawkeye Gold International Inc., De Beers and Major General.
