Iraq accuses Kuwait of stealing oil
BAGHDAD, Sept 14 (AFP) -
Iraqi Oil Minister Amer Rashid on Thursday accused Kuwait of stealing oil from two fields close to the border between the two countries, a charge that sparked Baghdad's invasion of the emirate in 1990.

"Kuwait has over these past years carried out sabotage of Iraq's oil fields," Rashid told the official INA news agency.

"Kuwait has undertaken horizontal drilling operations in the border zone to draw from Iraqi oil deposits," Rashid said.

"Iraq is following this affair and will take adequate measures that guarantee its rights of sovereignty over its oil riches," the minister added.

Fayez Shahin, undersecretary at the oil ministry, also told Al-Zaoura newspaper Thursday that Kuwait had been stealing oil from two fields bordering the emirate.

"Iraq is following closely the activities undertaken by the Al-Sabah (Kuwaiti ruling family) regime in stealing oil in the Rumeila and Zubeir fields in southern Iraq," Shahin said.

"The oil minister will put in place a meticulous and dissuasive plan to limit the movement of Iraqi oil to Kuwait and lessen the prejudice against Iraq because of the hostile behaviour of Kuwait," Shahin added.

He said that Baghdad had "the means of putting an end to the violations of the Kuwaiti regime and its theft of Iraqi oil."

Shahin did not give details of the plan nor the quantities of crude oil that Kuwait stands accused of stealing.

Iraq invaded Kuwait on August 2, 1990 after having accused the emirate of stealing petrol from the Rumeila field and nibbling away at its territory.

A US-led international coalition chased Iraqi forces out of Kuwait seven months later.>>

<<whatever fairy tale is needed>> Heinz, that is exactly right - every organ of the gov't will be employed to keep the present administration in place.

The parable of the Emperor's New Clothes is truly the most fitting. Everyone from the economists, to the Fed, to the analysts, is quite busy complimenting the Emperor. The key thing to look for is the little boy that says otherwise, because the Emperor's subjects clearly show no sign of doing so.

And I do agree that it is amazing that no independent economist (as if...) stands up and calls it all a sham. When the tide reverses they will be falling all over themselves to find justifications.

heinz, I do not recall this being mentioned, although surely it has been talked to death somewhere. I have been watching the divergences between the COMPX and NDX lately. usually, i more or less ignore the COMPX except for wide timeframe reviews.

The two important daily sMA's are inverted and have been since mid-June when the compx 50 crossed under its 200. The last time the compx 50 crossed down over the 200 it was a pretty good sell signal of course -- late sSept/early Oct 1998.

Today for the COMPX the 200 waits close by overhead. The NDX candle engulfs them both.

All good fun and am just musing while I watch my long struggle. -g whipsaw city these big gap up days.

(edit: Nice bounce on DXY!)

They can also fudge by manipulating the rotation of reporting cities. Use the upper Midwest states to get the lower prices post-refining bottlenecks.

This leg should get to 4020-4030 for 50 pct retrace of sell-off.
