Wind River Announces Strategic Investment in Tvia Inc. to Increase Demand for Set-Top Box Technology
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 2000--Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND - news), a leading provider of software and services for smart devices in the Internet age, through its Wind River Ventures unit announced today that it has made a strategic investment in Tvia, Inc. (Nasdaq:TVIA - news), a developer of semiconductors for the Internet appliance, broadband set-top box and digital television markets. As part of the strategic investment, Tvia and Wind River will jointly develop and market technology relating to streaming media libraries, Internet appliances, and set-top boxes. In addition, Tvia will distribute an evaluation copy of Wind River's Tornado® integrated development environment along with Tvia's software development kits to Tvia's customers in the digital television and set top box markets.

Forrester Research, Inc. estimates that in the United States from 2000 to 2003, the percentage of households with digital set-top box access to the internet will grow from over 15.3% to over 33.9%, representing a compound annual growth rate of 30.4%. Dataquest estimates that in 2003, the market for digital set-top boxes will be $7.2 billion, and the market for digital televisions will be $5 billion.

FTSE Global 100 Index Rejig Sees Unilever, GM Exit

LONDON -- A quarterly review of the FTSE Global 100 index has resulted in the exit from the index of heavyweights including Unilever NV (UN), Seagram Co. (VO) and General Motors Corp. (GM), the FTSE said Thursday.

Changes to the index will be effective after the close of trade Friday.
