Wow, I don't know what anyone can be complaining about. Annand's numbers looked pretty good to me. Remember, he ran what ever benchmarks he could. If you read his comments on the last page, he mentioned that they had some trouble running anything else...

It seems like the latter would definitely benefit from the features of DDR SDRAM: added memory bandwidth without added latency penalties, however we will have to save those benchmarks for another time with a hopefully more mature sample."

Even the Intel biased benchmarks were showing a five to twenty percent improvement over the kx 1 33 chipset. This is in line with the most optimistic estimates on this thread for DDR performance. And that's with only 100 MHz DDR! Annand couldn't run any of his tbirds at 2 66 fsb so we don't know how pc2100 performs yet. So what can we expect from a 33 percent increase to memory speed and fsb? All we need to do is look at a little article that sysreview. They managed overclock aclassic Athlon to 266fsb with very interesting results. Remember even this is only a fsb overclock, memory speed unchanged.

These Quake 3 framerates are similar to the early Pentium 4 benchmarks that were leaked a while ago. I say this because the Pentium 4 has a very high FSB (100MHz * 4 = 400) and it showed incredible scores. The increase in the Athlon’s FSB showed similar improvements. This shows that Quake 3 is FSB bandwidth starved and having a high FSB will really help alleviate this. "


So a 33 percent fsb increasegives us a 9 % performance boost. Now add to that Annand's measured 14 % DDR bonus and you've got yourself one hell of a quake3 score! I realize q3 isn't the only thing we do with our computers and office apps aren't so bandwidth starved but these numbers certainly bode well for high-end apps. the Athlon is a high bandwidth core and already at 1 GHz the current via platform seems a serious bottleneck. As Annand's and sysreview's benchmarks show, there's plenty of potential still to glean from the k7 core.
Bottom line is, as soon as Annand can pair a production DDR motherboard with PC2100 I think we'll all be in for a very pleasant surprise.
