RE:"Intel's own results show 820/RDRAM performance to be essentially equivalent to 815/PC133, which is bad enough for Rambus, but not as bad as the results seen by AnandTech."

If all Intel can do is get Rambus to bench "essentially equivalent" to an 815/PC133, what do you think the real world performance is?
-10%, -20%???
The thing that makes me laugh the most is how Intel labels their chipsets...
i810, i815, i820, i840, i850 etc....like the higher the number the higher the performance or something...
Who are they trying to kid? Their flagship right now is the i815...the second from the bottom?
Rant...
I wish someone or something would put an end to this RAMBUS fiasco. I see no redeeming value in the company. The whole industry would be better off if they would just "go away".
Their business plan is to cripple the whole DRAM (and computer) industry through the use of Lawyers and questionably obtained IP and patents, all inj the name of protecting IP. Sure, man sure. Rambus will leave a bad taste in the mouth of the chip industry for years to come...for bringing excessive litigation into a much less innocent industry.
When it became evident that their own technology, RAMBUS, wasn't going to cut the mustard, they decide to go out force the issue by demanding royalties on other forms of RAM...so why didn't they do that years ago? Why all of a sudden? I'll tell you why, they are desperate. So what do they do...stink up the whole computer industry by bringing in a bunch of Lawyers. Their plan is simple....attack some of the lesser DRAM makers first, the Japanese are accomodating. Get some agreements. Use these agreements later as ammunition to go after the bigger DRAM makers...
Then, crank up the royalties on DDR and SDRAM and promote their own RDRAM.
Is this the kind of crap that you want to see going on in the tech sector? Sure, the greedy make a few bucks and can use this shallow excuse to justify it. Big deal...
After the Toshiba deal, the stock it 145. Now it's 85. Each deal has less effect. Zev's got it right, at best, trade it...
