Oblomov--

Not all that long ago they has something like that, primarily in the South, known as poll taxes. I seemed that some people were so desperately poor that they simply couldn't afford the tax...hence the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

You really want to turn back the clock like that?

What happens when the tax rate rises so high that YOU can't AFFORD to vote?

--Why not simply make taxation voluntary, and confer the right to vote only on those who choose to pay taxes? Consider it an attempt at 'discovery' of the market price of citizenship. --

My favorite is to count up the entire population, then divide that number into the total budget, then each man, woman, and child would pay the government 'their fair share.'

Your idea is very good.

Another would be that you would get a number of votes equal to the number of tax dollars you've paid. Also government employees would not be allowed to vote as it would be a conflict of interest.
