Eric,

Excuse my ignorance and please help me out. Is ELON's product already in a tornado? If yes, it meets the manual's criterion as an investable gorilla candidate. If not, well, ya know what I'm getting at.

Profitability and Gorillas (and candidates)

If we look at these companies as prospective business owners, there is really no gray area when talking about profitability. As owners, we are interested in free cash flow. All members of the G&K Index are profitable. JDSU is free cash flow positive; the accrual earnings it reports are for IRS and SEC purposes. (At least one of the companies on the W&W list is free cash flow negative, despite reporting profits.)

We can make extraordinary returns limiting ourselves to profitable companies. Why bother with those that are not (yet?) profitable? At the least we should have a good idea when they might turn truly profitable. I admit I like learning about them, but...

(BTW Eric I'm not disageeing with you, though it reads that way to me when I look it over. Just late night noise from the peanut gallery.)
