Tench,
RE:"I knew you'd try to bring up this kind of argument. I don't believe the guys doing Intel's performance briefs will actively try to cripple the scores of 815/PC133 just to give it a better chance against 820/RDRAM. Otherwise, they wouldn't have stopped half-way and left the scores merely equivalent. Rather, they would have gone all the way and cripple 815 to the point where it would scores less than 820 in every single benchmark."

You make a good point.
6 months ago it would have made sense for Intel to hype Rambus benchmarks. Heck, the i815 got a lower number 820>815 even though it was a newer chip. Then it was a segmentation thing and Intel still wanted to push RAMBUS.
Now, I think they would dearly love to get out from under it. While 6 months ago (yeah, I know i815 is only about 3 months old) I could have believed they crippled some i815 benchmarks to make RAMBUS look good, I doubt seriously they would do that today. So maybe Intel i815 vs i820 benchmarks are close to reality...but that sure doesn't say much for RAMBUS...even more so when you look at Anands...

RE:"<I wish someone or something would put an end to this RAMBUS fiasco>
I wish someone or something would put an end to the Microsoft fiasco as well (i.e. DOJ stop pushing for MS breakup; MS stop acting like an arrogant bully). But hey, that's life."

I don't know if I would compare the two. Except MS and Rambus are examples of more Lawyer invasion into high tech.

OTSH, one could make a case for RAMBUS supporters being akin to chasing ambulances.
