your eternal optimism during these last 6 months has been greatly appreciated

Nichols, I stayed in JDSU since last fall. Everyone got a chance to get out when it was being added to the S and P. I certainly reduced my position back then. You only run into trouble if you just held onto this one stock afterwards with a large position. If one had SDLI, GLW, NT etc---there could have been big gains. I mostly traded it afterwards.

My favorite hold has been Corning. That one has been a great ride and will be for the remainder of the year. I think GLW is this year what JDSU was last year. They just filed to increase shares from 1.2 billion to 3.8 billion (see news release below). I see another split before year end. In addition, the need to grant employee stocks options will increase their ability to attract a lot of skilled employees.
I am super bullish on GLW but one day sooner or later, the lack of movement in JDSU stock will result in an explosive move, IMHO. SDLI deal closing could be the catalyst or something else.

The catalyst in the past would have been ETEK deal closing except that they announced the SDLI so soon afterwards that JDSU had no time for a takeoff. In addition, too many funds already held either ETEK or SDLI and kept away from JDSU for this reason. Once the SDLI closes, it would have led to overconcentration of JDSU in portfolios. I do think this process is coming to an end and only the real long term holders (who have a lot patience) now remain in the stock---ie. I think it has bottomed--or is on the verge of it. I think we would have been at about 160 if it had not been for the SDLI deal announcement.

JDSU movement just has not made it attractive for options at all and that is why I have stayed from it. If a stock is a good options play, then I add a lot of shares too. Otherwise it is basically shares with the odd speculative options trade.
I don't really have a large position in JDSU yet but am trying to time my buys. Have been buying last couple of days and will probably continue tomorrow and next week. The stories of automation of production as told to the analysts make for a very bullish case for this stock but still not a great options play yet (except for speculative ones of course).
