If raising the minimum wage is such a good idea why stop at increasing it bt just $1? Why not $1.50? Why not

The minimum wage is not important. If the market will support it, people will be hired. If not, they won't. For every poor person that it marginally helps, there is someone who is thrown out of work, or not hired in the first place. The main reason that unions like it is that it helps to set the pace in contract negotiations. Anyway, I do not know anyone who has shouted himself hoarse over it. I don't much care, myself.
