Ashanti Goldfields delays sale of Geita mine to Anglogold
London--Sept. 14--Ghanaian gold miner Ashanti Goldfields Company Ltd. has
delayed the sale of a 50% interest in its Geita gold mine in Tanzania to South
African precious metal giant AngloGold Ltd. until Oct. 31. The firm has,
however, secured its banks' support for the completion of the sale of the mine,
it said Thursday. To this end, it has secured the consent of its banks for an
extension of a U.S. $100 million bridging facility, it added. (Story .15031)

UK's Avocet Mining sees record output in Aug. at Penjom gold mine
London--Sept. 14--Gold production at UK gold producer Avocet Mining plc.'s
Penjom gold mine in Malyasia hit record levels in August, the company said
Thursday. Output reached 10,200 ounces, a record since production began at

Mining industry set to join cyberspace with eMarketplace
Johannesburg--Sept. 14--The Mining and Metals eMarketplace, a grouping of
16 major mining and metals companies, is to commence pre-enrolling of
suppliers "in the next few days," setting the stage for a fully-fledged on-line
procurement portal early next year, according to Steve Harvey, a spokesman for
