Listen, there may be a silver lining here. --- I'm reading the current CompUSA insert. In it, they are giving away little plastic watches with each discounted copy of Windows ME upgrade. Additionally (and here's the kicker), they're giving away your choice of similarly valued software titles. It just so happens that one of those titles is Partition Magic, which is the single best piece of Windows software in exixtence (and worth the $50 all day long). --- So, here's what *I'd recommend: Go buy WinME for $50, get the free watch and Partition Magic (which BTW, will not work with WinME -- but that's not going to matter). Take the little plastic watch and trade it for a $2 copy of current Linux. Throw Windows ME *away. Install Partition Magic. Prepare the HD for Linux and then install that next to your existing Windows9x. Now you have a dual boot PC runnig both legacy Windows and Linux. --- Wait! Go back to the trash can and get that WinME. It still has the shrink wrap on it! Mere fingerprints do not yet constitute agreeing to the EULA. Take that sucker back to CompUSA and trade it for something of value. -JCJ
