OT Shutting Down Countries and Cities

elmatdor- Considering what just happened in France, and what happened in the UK, this is not going to look pretty if it comes to pass as you paint it. Protests against gasoline tax can literally shut down a country. I'm guessing protest against the IMF may be successful too. It'll be interesting to watch from a distance but must be worriesome from your point of view. And the Europeans wonder why the Euro is so weak against the greenback? Go figure. -MikeM(From Florida)

Hi el mat,

Re: The IMF meeting. Sounds like an opportunity to set up a webcam and produce some interesting footage. I have no doubt that it will be tumultuous.

Elematador:

I think you should treat the IMF protest problem as you do telephony:

Protesters say, the money men will not even reach the venue. That's an old city
divided by a river which a few bridges to cross. Many of the streets are very
narrow. The protester disdained the police efforts saying that with 80 bicycles they
will bring Prague to a halt.

Clearly, a queuing analysis indicates that demands are excessive, and capacity is
low. The embedded incumbent (old city) is unable to deploy new bridges quickly
enough. The current control mechanism is collision detection by police (PCD), and
that, like the ethernet, doesn't scale to handle high traffic or blocking.

I don't know what to make of the 80 bicycles. Are they an attempt to speed up
traffic for priority users? But the front end and back end headers will take up more space, so what have you gained?

I suggest the solution is in your area of expertise. Air. Just as the phone problems
were solved by new protocols using air waves, you should 'think out of the box'. You need a Protestor Avoidance Protocol (PAP) running over 3rd Dimensional Movement Avoidance (3DMA) air based media.

Have you thought of balloon travel?
