Sense of responsibility for the job ahead: If he had that, he would have quit as Clinton's vice-president........
That would be the most meanest thing for a VP to do. That would have precipitated constitutional crisis. Majority opinion was also with Clinton, despite the distaste for his personal behaviour. Had republicans handled this whole drama a little bit differently, things would have been much different. They conducted themselves in such a way that people forgot about Clinton's transgressions. I squarely lay the blame on Republican party footsteps.
Al Gore did the best thing under those circumstances. Went on a vacation. However he should have chosen his words carefully after the impeachment. As far as I know, his personal charactar in all respects is considered to be good. But in a political life spanning over a quarter century you can always pick and choose, good and bad. You look at his negatives, I look at the positives.
I do believe one has to be hungry for presidency. That is the only way we know a candidate is serious about it.

BTW: I heard that Bush spends about 2 to 3 hours a day playing computer games even at this stage of campaigning. If this is true, it does not show his passion for the job ahead or else he lacks stamina. Both of which are bad.

>>>I do not want someone who is "hungry for the presidency".<<<

My understanding from anecdotal statements made by business acquaintances of GWB is that Bush was only convinced to run for the Texas governorship after it became clear to him that he would not be appointed Commissioner of Baseball.

Maybe this run for the presidency is just an effort to pad his resume for his dream job.

>>>Bush has a fine work ethic, and has been campaigning vigorously.<<<

Maybe he has been campainging hard.

When he was a full time governor (before the campaign began) his daily work habits were reported to be rather relaxed with two to three hours of mid-day computer golf and solitaire gaming.
