I'm not certain you can identify with certainty that their drug caused lowered platelet counts.

Toxicology data is not impressive. After all the doses that killed the monkey were an order of magnitude greater than the max clinical dose.

What is of concern is that Novartis has pulled the plug on new enrollments into clinical trials. What this means is uncertain, since it is not clear that the halt is related directly to the new toxicology data, and what exact reasons they have for doing so. Information we're not likely to get.
