Slightly OT: In 1996 I was using a broker from Bear Stearns.
He would call me periodically with stock picks that his firm was touting. Occasionally he would throw me a "bone", i.e. a stock which he knew was going to go up quickly and turn it over for a small profit. One such pick was a little company (at the time) called Uniphase. On 6/11/96 "I" purchased 300 shares at 30 bucks and 2 days later sold it for 33 dollars. I think that those shares are worth around $1,000,000 now, more than my net worth.
Water under the bridge, and at least some positive events have happened as a result-I make my own investment decisions now and the first purchases I made a from the mutual funds I have been liquidating were JDSU in Nov of 99
and SDLI in Jan of this year, and I am planning to hold both until I am ready to sell them.
