Buchanan will allow Bush to be seen standing up to the far right, will throw off Gore's anal style of preparation, will show how fringe the Democratic Party is by the similarity of his camp and the Democrats on economic issues, and will be handled well by Bush, who is just the sort to deflate his bombast.
