It is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS if you are using your phone. Tell them you were hassled by air crew who obviously don't know their job and you will travel on another airline next time. The FAA is going to have to come into the 21st century and fast. Mqurice PS: I'm glad the plane didn't crash. Were you worried?
