Dear Lynn: When I get a new vehicle I wax it several times allowing a few days between waxings to harden good in order to build up a good base coat. After that I wax both vehicles every 3 months. In between I use a product called Quik Detailer to keep the gloss very bright and reflective.
What the dealer puts on is NOT a protectant wax BUT merely a high shine polish. It wont last and it wont give protection from sun and acid rain etc.
We drove our 1989 Cherokee (which I have since given to our son) to the dealership to pick up the Wrangler. The general manager came out and took a look at that Cherokee. He said in his 25 YEARS of association with Jeep he had NEVER seen a vehicle that age look so PERFECT. It has original factory paint yet shines as well as a brand new vehicle. JDN
