I've seen some of those exotic pheasants and they are pretty. Used to feed some ringnecks in the back yard, man they were spooky.

My mother's cousin used to have a pet dove. It spent most of the time on her fireplace mantle. She also had several hundred parakeets she bred, a flock of guineas and a couple of dozen peafowl. The guineas make excellent watch dogs.

I used to get ducklings from a guy who raised ducks. He didn't want the off spring when they crossed with wild ducks as that gave him a smaller product. I'd bring the little mongrels home and let them play in the ditch during the day and put them up at night until they were too quick to catch. First cool days in September they'd head south.

We also had a pair of tame ducks. Now there was some personality. They would peck on the windows and quack when they wanted us to keep them company. Go out to do any project in the yard and the two "helpers" would come running. One liked to sit on my foot when I would be walking.

I've helped with chickens and taken care of flocks when the owner was on vacation. Made me feel important like the Federal Government, steal their nest eggs and give them back chicken feed.
