Hi Wayne, I wish I knew what P/E she was/is using. I always assumed it was a very broad one. I had the Value Line data in my base, so used it. That represents about 1700 stocks across all sorts of sectors.

Value Line's P/E is currently around 14.0, so in conjunction with the 52 week Treasury coupon rate, we add up to just over 20. Here's what that graph looks like for the last 3+years:

As you'll note, it was off the charts back in '98 before the big decline in the Fall. Also note that it gave a very nice "Bullish" signal late that year and heading into '99. Since then it's been fairly civilized.

It's Speculation that seems to weigh heavy on the market in the last year or so. It seems like too much money chasing too few stocks:

and it's been rising again recently. This data is only updated on a weekly basis, so this graph doesn't reflect much of the last week's corrective action.

Those two components are part of an overall measure I use.
