dan,
you keep attributing things to me that companies are saying...
wassup wid dat?
i only did the math.
NEC said this last year...not me.

In moving to 128M DRAMs, NEC will give priority to producing the promising Direct Rambus memory chip, raising output to 4 million monthly by next summer and 6-7 million by the end of 2000.
NEC also plans shipping next-generation 256M Direct Rambus DRAMs by the end of this year, ahead of other firms. The company expects to begin fabricating this chip with a precision of 0.18 micron at the Hiroshima and other plants from next spring.

of course we now know retrospectively that it did not happen like that...kinda funny that it turned out to be an even bigger windfall for rmbs since the sd and ddr royalties are said to be much higher.

i guess the only thing that really matters is that nec is now paying royalties on their entire dram production. you did make a good point though...last year we thought 85% would be great...instead we got 100%.

i am sure from your side that it is difficult watching 4 of 10 dram mfrs cave in a matter of weeks and agree to pay royalties on all dram to rmbs.

must have been even more difficult to find out the other day that the new generation TVs, settop boxes and DVDs are all using rambus. did you know that includes cable and satellite boxes?

i just spoke with adelphia...the new digital set top boxes should be available for delivery here in about a week.
they completed the installation of 2 way cable here about 2 weeks ago. i read a while back that sony is delivering 3 million boxes to the NYC cable company...how is the rollout going where you are?

as for your sony P II comments....well you know 500,000 units here and there does add up after a while.
did you hear that sony is front loading the supply channel with 5 million for the holiday shoppers? and get this...my neighbor steve has called all over trying to get one locally for his son...they are sold out...all pre-ordered.
he can't find one.
