Mark,
<<Could it work this way?>>
There are two separate threads to this and you have hit both. Low capacity, i.e. less than 10gb drives will essentially disappear as the capacity of a single platter with one head exceeds that; likely to happen next calendar year. The incremental cost of using both sides of a single platter drive instead of one side is no match for the marketing advantage of double the capacity. But what we might see instead at the very low end of the market is some delay in migration from 10gb media to 15gb media to 20gb media. In other words, in the realm of single platter drives, it may be more cost effective to fill capacity points by media progression than to fill them with single vs double heads. Stitch may have a better opinion on the validity of that conjecture. The realm of single platter drives is sure to become the bulk of desktop units, if it isn't already. If I'm right about that its relatively good news for HTCH, INVX, KRP, RDRT, HMTT/KMAG, etc. In the realm of large drives I see a lot less hope for relief from the coming further increases in arial density.

I like your suggested categories because they would pretty well equate to 1, 2, and 3 or greater platter drives over the next calendar year. In any case, beggars can't be choosers, and we are all so grateful for your hard work I'm sure we will shoot any beggar so presumptuous and tell God he died :o)

Best Regards......Tom
