Hi justone,

The IEEE 802 Overview and Architecture usually has one MAC per committee (the .11 MAC has Point Coordination Function and Distributed Coordination Function - centralized and distributed control) in one MAC (committees compromise), and 802.15.3 High Speed Wireless PAN is about to pick a second MAC to go with the High Speed Wireless PAN PHY(s). IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN, has one MAC for > 10GHz, and is working on a second MAC for < 10GHz. So we make the rules as we go along ;-)

Here's a fairly recent overview of 10Gbe. Its not really what you're looking for, but may be of interest nonetheless:
