i've recently installed three powerquest programs...

drive image3.02
partitionmagic5.0
secondchance2.0

i installed in the above order. the first two went on a couple days ago. other than a small system resource hit, the machine runs sweet.

last night i installed secondchance2.0 (a rollback utility). i had two total lockups and my iomega jaz drive was giving me error codes like i've never seen before. (ironic, too, that i would encounter probs installing software that is expressly for the purpose of 'going back' if an install was a mistake!).

anyway, i removed secondchance2.0 and i'm just using system normally today to make sure all is right again. i'll try reinstalling sc2.0 tomorrow, kind of on a one more chance basis. if it's still a no go, i'll return it and try adaptec's 'goback'.

fwiw

:)

Thanks CK; uninstalling the RamBooster is exactly what I was going to try next.

The problem, however, is not that I want more speed, but that I have (evidently) done something that has degraded the scrolling speed. Everything still loads fine or I would be really up the wall, so I guess it isn't speed per se.

It takes a long time to reach ATI Tech on the phone, but I think I'll try that on Monday if re-installing the drivers doesn't work. They might have some input on this (reputed) IExplorer 5.5 obsolescing your video driver problem.

Will post if I cure my scrolling problem.
