<font color=purple>CVF 6.5 Offers 15% Boost to Athlon (SOFTWARE)

Thanks to J.L. for notifying me regarding this Heise Online story about Compaq's newest version of Visual Fortran. CVF 6.5 now incorporates, among other things, optimizations for the Athlon and K6 processors. According to the article, these optimizations are responsible for a 15% performance boost in SPECfp2000 compared to the previous 6.1 compiler.

Available for most versions of Windows (including Alpha/NT through December of this year), the compiler can be executed from the command line or as a plugin to Microsoft Visual Studio. This is similar to Intel's compiler, though CVF has no need for Microsoft's C++ libraries.
