Drive Image just backs up partitions, not files, but the whole ball of wax. (Your files are sitting ontop of that partition)

I create images, then copy critical data, like my Netscape user folder, Word docs, .ini files for programs, etc, etc to a back-up folder on a second hard drive on my computer. ( ZIP and CDR as well)

I drag and drop the files I want into that folder (files that are changed from the last time the image was created). I prefer doing this manually, but you could use any back-up program just to restore your critical data after an image is restored.

I played with all sorts of back-up methods and this system has been the most reliable, and quick. A complete restore of my hard drive, now about 5.5 GIG is around 20-25 min that includes coping all the critical data once the image is restored.

Of course if I create an image right now, then say I installed a software package, and say that software screwed up my computer, or I just didn't like it, and didn't want to uninstall, all I would have to do is restore the image only, because that image is up to date. After the image is restored the computer would be back to the way it was before the install of that specific software.

Hello CatLady,

While Drive Image makes a complete image of a partition, the program does have the ability to bring back (restore)specific files/folders from within the image.
