Way back when it seems to me that you had to switch to non encryped passwords for samba as Bill Gates had instructed the members of his programing cult to use a msft unique not to be disclosed passwd encryption scheme. I believe Mr. Gates did this to make his OS immune to viruses and such.

Now I believe that is why the samba howto only speaks to one way around the Bill Gates way, as we all know Mr. Gates always never restrained progress, Except for Judge Jackson.

Now I think the Linux encrypted passwds are not used in samba, but I'm not sure of all the details.

MS is not merely shooting itself in the foot it declares nuclear war against standing.

Hey E! It's good to read you. I was kinda worried. Hopefully they sentenced you to time served??

Say, I just read this long mofo essay by Neal Stephenson and I want everyone here to experience the same misery (if you haven't already). It's a great read. It just takes for freakin' ever to get to the end.

On your mark, get set...
