Good points. I was also told that most in Taiwan get around on little motor scooters if they want personal transportation. They are VERY energy efficient. We're pretty much pigs when it comes to energy consumption here in the US (with myself at the top of the HOG list for low MPG vehicles).

These sorts of articles seem to appear just at the worst and might be an indication of a top in oil prices.??? Sort of like the articles saying the semiconductor cycle was history was, in retrospect, a good clue for the semiconductor correction (or bear market) we have seen the past few months.

Perhaps the area to be concerned about is energy use by business in Asia? IF their profits get hit, then it hurts in they can't give raises, order less products, etc. Then again, it might get more important to spend on productivity enhancements to stay competitive or take market share in a downturn.
