<< We competed for the National Championship two years ago >>

Did ya win?

Not much of a name on the West coast. (Must be an eastern thing.)

<< Sorry I never heard of him. Not much of a name on the West coast. (Must be an eastern thing.) >>

And how many career wins did you say Bob Toledo has.

I have heard of him, but not much of a name on the East coast. (Must be a Pac-10 thing.

<< We are 6th in the AP, 8th in the Coaches poll >>

Holy Schlomoley: 3 Pac-10 clubs in the Top 10? UCLA, Washington and Southern California, and Stanford helped the Bruins out by beating Texas? It's (almost) the dawn of a new century.

Looks like the last 3 weeks of the season are going to be tons of fun for the Bruins. You get all 3.

Meantime we just sent a local youngster named Kwame Harris (6-7, 320 pounds) out to Stanford. Top rated prep offensive lineman in the US, last year, so if there are any Cardinals out there, keep an eye on this concert cellist with a straight A average. His younger brother Orien is the top rated high school defensive end in the country this year, and will probably also attend Stanford. At (6-4, 270) he's a bit smaller than Kwame.

Bob Toledo is 32-17 at UCLA in his fifth year (46-47 in seven career years). No wonder he isn't a household name back east here. His UCLA record is pretty credible, but not quite the winning percentage of Tubby (287-109-3 in 35th season at UD). Credible all the same. Lets see, assuming Tubby goes out with 300+ career wins, Bob needs about 255 more victories to catch him.

And here are the REALLY big leaguers:

Eddie Robinson - Record: (408-165-15)

Paul "Bear" Bryant - Record: (323-85-17)

Joe Paterno - Record: (316-81-3)

Amos Alonzo Stagg - Record: (314-199-35)
