Re: "Perhaps the box makers are waiting for the 1.2GHZ Athlons early next month. That way they don't have to redo all of their documentation, web sites, manuals, etc. one month after they release the 1.1GHZ - they will just release both speeds at once."

Oh - now I get it !

By delaying the 1.1 GHz AThWiper Introduction, AMD is NOT having a paper launch.

What is the meaning of "is", Monica?

Re: "Next month Intel will paper launch a 1.4 GHZ P4, while AMD and the OEMs do a modest launch into retail of the 1.1 and 1.2GHZ Athlons. "

Oh...AMD now does MODEST LAUNCHES !!!

What is the meaning of "is", Monica ?

Re: "It's just an unfortunate coincidence, but falling behind AMD just when there is such a stark contrast between less than and more than one GHZ is probably going to be tough on Intel ASPs this fall and winter."

Don't bet on it.

Or better yet - maybe you SHOULD bet on it !

AMD - Now dominating the ENTERPRISE Market

theregister.co.uk

"The print ads, say AMD, should target the commercial sector, using the AMD logo, the Athlon message, and where to buy the kit. When advertising on the Web, "sponsorship" of specific sites is preferred over general banner ads. AMD will provide the Athlon banner graphics. On the telly and on radio, resellers are advised to hos their own computer talk show, and AMD "will be happy to be a frequent guest".

Partners are advised to tell the press about wins AMD has made with commercial customers, and to provide us with performance optimized systems for product reviews. (Keep 'em coming, lads).

Joint presentations with AMD to provide so-called seed programmes are encouraged. AMD will provide optimized systems and encourages its resellers to show how good they are at service and support, according to slides we saw.

AMD will provide a bunch of promotional items such as the AMD Athlon Ratt Matt, window stickers, tear pads, and Mylar (not Myanmar) stickers, it has emerged. "

The YUK Wretchedster Becomes AMD Approved

Register becomes AMD approved
By: Mike Magee

Confidential Slides seen by The Register over the weekend show that AMD is telling its resellers to visit our site, in order to see that double data rate (DDR) memory is better than Rambus. That, by the way, is not a conclusion we've ever come to.

And this is a seal of approval that doesn't necessarily do us a great deal of good, we have to say.

The slide discusses the merits of the two memory technologies, and AMD's view that while Rambus RIMMs have decreased in cost, Intel has had difficulty in implementing the platform and "almost no-one else has shipped a chipset" or mobo product

Further, AMD says that DDR will have only a five per cent cost penalty until the second half of next year. While the layout and design of mobos using DDR are more challenging than SDRAM, AMD, SiS, ServerWorks, Ali, Via and "apparently Intel" itself will use DDR memories. AMD and Micron are in cahoots to produce DDR memory, it seems.

While AMD admits that maximum bandwidth with either type of memory can be similar, it claims that 266MHz DDR is faster than Rambus.

Other Web sites "recommended" to resellers by AMD include Inqst and Tom's Hardware. We are described as a "Computer Industry Rumors" site.

AMD has never advertised with our publication. Intel has. So draw your own conclusions.
