Allaire Provides Outlook on Third Quarter 2000 Financial Results NEWTON, MA - September 18, 2000 - Allaire Corporation (Nasdaq: ALLR), a leading provider of Internet software and services for companies building their businesses on the Web, today provided an outlook on its third quarter 2000 financial results. For the quarter ending Sept. 30, 2000, the company presently anticipates revenue in the range of $28.0 million to $32.0 million, compared to $33.3 million in the second quarter of fiscal year 2000 and $15.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 1999. Factors: · Allaire's broadening of its organizational focus to provide a multi-product offering, including Allaire Spectra and JRun. During the quarter, Allaire made significant investments in building its packaged application and Java application server businesses and increasing its resources focused on the emerging Internet platform marketplace. These factors had a negative impact on the sales and marketing efforts supporting ColdFusion. · Lower than expected channel sales. Due to the seasonality typically associated with the third quarter, Allaire anticipated that a majority of third quarter sales would close during the month of September. The latest sell-through reports from the channel indicate lower-than expected revenues for September related to core products. · Longer than anticipated Allaire Spectra sales cycle. Based on the latest sales forecasts, a number of Allaire Spectra deals anticipated to close during the third quarter have moved into future quarters. "We are disappointed at the anticipated results for the third quarter. As we enter the Internet platform marketplace, Allaire has transitioned a number of areas of its business to support its enhanced multi-product business model. We remain certain that this multi-product business model is the correct long-term strategy for the company," said David Orfao, president and chief executive officer of Allaire Corporation. "Through the first two months of the quarter, our sales remained on target. Due to the seasonality associated with the third quarter, we anticipated a majority of sales to close during the month of September. However, based on the recent feedback received from the channel and our direct sales force, we are now adjusting our forecasts to reflect lower than anticipated revenues." Actions: · Implementing demand generation programs. Allaire is expanding marketing initiatives focused on lead generation for its core products, including 80 seminars in its North American seminar series and more than 20 Web-based seminars. · Refining customer qualification and sales efforts for Allaire Spectra.
