But Andersen or EDS are focused on service and do not have the distraction of maintaining and advancing a Linux Distribution. Redhat may break even or even make a little revenue on the OS, but if they screw up a release the name goes in the toilet and then who wants to buy redhat service.

Redhat does not have the expertise in house to consult in the majority of areas that Andersen or EDS consult but both Andersen or EDS can provide or get into Linux consulting easily.

The requirements to become a Linux expert are a 386, the ability to read and some common sense. Having installed and used six different distribution of Linux, It doesn't matter which you choose.

How much linux can you buy for $13.00. watman.com (this is not a plug for applix) Now I use the Mandrake on this system,
watman.com and a couple of others.

Now I used Redhat for most of my six plus Linux years. I switched to Mandrake because I dropped the Redhat cdrom shown in makeitx.jpg and it chipped. I was talking to a friend while downloading 6.2 Redhat and he indicated he had switched to Mandrake as it was Redhat plus. Now my friend is Joe Technology Conservative and I decided to try the Mandrake shown in makeitx.jpg.

Where did I buy my cheap Linux... watman.com
and in particular. watman.com

Why is Mandrake Redhat Plus. One example....
Well the several thousand photos that I've taken and put online all have been processed using xv. xv does not come with redhat and is still provided with mandrake.

Mandrake is redhat plus. Each costs 2 bucks for a cdrom and zero? to download.

So because on a lark I decided to buy one of each CD, six for 13 bucks, just to create a funny photo, turned out to be for me my lucky day. It makes it obvious that selling Linux OS will not generate bags of money. Can redhat become a major Linux service provider from being an OS provider. I think it is much easier for other major service providers to just add Linux to their mix. Fortune 500 will go with bigger providers and smaller companies will go with small and independents. I just don't see how redhat can carve out a big piece of the pie.

Redhat went public with bags of shares and I don't see how in the near future they can generate EPS. I'll be happy if I'm wrong, I'd love for Bob Young to be worth more than bill gares, but I'm not going to invest in redhat.

Oh I'm using this system watman.com that is still running Red Hat Linux release 5.2 (Apollo) to write this. If it ain't broke I don't fix it.
