My understanding is that any 10G link, even between the a 10G switch and a 10G or 1G or 10M node, uses collision detection at the low layer; perhaps I've misread the specifications.

I certainly am very fond of mesh networks with switches, for many reasons, and there is a place for 10G in metro and core data centric networks.

I guess I was thinking you were proposing 10G fiber to the house for 10G. But I note in your response you are talking about high traffic nodes, so thanks for the clarification.
