You are absolutely correct. The IBM case was not about fairness. It was about corporate greed. Had IBM administered the pension plan change fairly, it would have permitted every worker the option of remaining in the defined benefit plan, while instituting the cash-balance plan for all new hires.

IBM management also provided scant information about the pension plan change to employees, hoping to pull a "fast one."

Bottom line: A few rank and file at IBM asked questions, and the more questions they asked, the greater the stench coming from the office of the VP for human resources.

And now the Repubs have another bill in the Senate to accomplish same, cleverly packaged with an IRA improvements bill.

The deceit of big business and their Repub stooges in Congress is astounding.
