To execute their business plan, CLECS must have
access to the debt market at a reasonable cost.
During the last 2 years, borrowers had the upper
hand on lenders because of their ability
to perform secondary stock offerings. Now, the shoe
is on the other foot, lenders have the upper hand.
This crunch is catching most CLECs during the
most vulnerable phase of their existence. This
is not helped by the managerial incompetence of
CLECS like GST or ICG. How many of those are there
still around? ESPI, ELIX ...? I am starting to
think that a careful look at bonds as a safer way
of playing the CLECs might make sense.
