Aus - 40 is merely a speed bump in the highway of life. Keep on rolling . . .

Happy Birthday

Congrats Aus.

Is it me, or do you live your life on this thread? :)

Aus, hope it's not that bad, 'cuz 40 is just around the corner for me. My philosophy is that age is just a number...Happy Birthday! Thanks again for all your hard work on the thread.

Hardware Review -- Part 2: <OT>

After some trouble installing Intel Home Networking, Quake III arena killed my son's MODEM (aka no Internet chat) and destroyed my registry. Two hours with Microsoft proved that it killed the "registry backup" as well ... renedering my PC a useless piece of junk. I had to delete a ton of files, reinstall Windows, copy a bunch of files and then reinstall almost 10GB of programs.

After two days and little sleep, I brought my Win98 PC back up with most functions. It boots far faster than before.

I took the time to Norton virus scan my son's PC -- which had been running using the McAfee Virus SCanner which comes with Win98 -- and came up with >1,000 infected files. "Gee Dad, I'll download the latest virus updates when I get to it ..." It took five Virus checker reinstalls and a full Windows reinstall to clear that PC (~12 working hours).

I still don't have the Intel home network running. But I did install my top=-of-the-line Klipsch speakers and Mozart is now "dead-on wonderful" in the face of these troubles. My Plextor 12X CD-Writer will soon be making a system backup after I spend another $40 buying special software (which came free with HP's slower CD-RW drive).

I have 25+ years with computers and knew exactly which questions to ask. But, IMHO, there is absolutely no hope that an average Windows user could have recovered anything in my case. MSFT has a L-O-N-G way to go before they get it right (the "Registry" was a REALLY dumb idea!!!)

I've been working far too hard these last three days to check in on SNDK. Except that I noted a general downtrend in semis :-(

Perhaps another hour of Mozart will make even that more palatable.
