dd, It was not meant to be condescending, and no such statement can be a blanket for all people in any one group. A large portion of the minority populations in this country, have lived under an umbrella of welfare for several generations, and such a pattern is very difficult to change, for anyone, of any race. Some racial groups have had a more difficult time of it than others, and IMO, all attempts to help, should be done in a case by case manner. If your SI user name is any indication, you are of Hispanic descent, and when I was growing up, I lived, worked, and played, and partied, with a large group of people who were proud to call themselves Mexicans, and they had a lot to be proud of. Most of those that I once knew as my friends, that are still alive, are retired, but their children are all in top, or middle, echelon management of whatever firm or company they work for. This success story can happen to anyone from any racial group, if they are given the tools, and provided with the education necessary to take that first step. That, IMO, is what the conservatives of the Republican Party are trying to do, with a great deal of opposition from the democratic members of Congress, and the present administration. My personal feeling, is that every human being that is willing to work, should have the opportunity to do so, with equal opportunity for advancement. I dare say that, that is not condescending. ~H~
